A Better BBQ
Choosing natural can make for better nutrition and better taste!
Who wants to be in the kitchen this time of year? As temperatures rise, people choose the BBQ as their primary cooking appliance.
However you prepare it, the same rule applies: the better you put in, the better you get out. At Goodness Me! we have
sourced some of the best quality meats you can find. Rowe Farms supplies us with a wide variety of free range beef, pork and chicken products. These animals have been raised without growth hormones or antibiotics and are grass fed for most of the season. Other products of similar quality include Windy Acres Venison, Cumbrae chicken and Hallelujah bison burgers. Venison and bison are two leaner and flavourful alternatives to beef.

For a step up in quality serve certified organic meats. They meet the same strict standards as free range, and have the additional benefit that the animals are fed only organic feed.

No matter what meat you choose, the mixture below makes a great sauce.

PUT THE FOLLOWING IN A RECIPE BOX:

      Best BBQ Baste
      Olive Oil
      Herbamare (a seasoned salt)
      Black Pepper
      Chili Powder

Mix together to form a thin paste. While cooking the meat,
apply paste repeatedly with a basting brush.
For more spice add hot peppers, hot sauce, garlic and/or onion powder.

This is a great way to replace sauces that are full of sugar, acetic acid and artificial flavours and colours. It also helps prevent burning the meat.

For seafood you can use the same topping, but you may want to add some freshly squeezed organic lemon, preferably after barbequing. When choosing fish and seafood, look for wild caught rather than farmed. At Goodness Me!, we carry wild caught salmon, whitefish, trout and much more.

Vegetarians are not left out of the BBQ kitchen. Most vegetables are easy to prepare and delicious on the BBQ. Choose organic to minimize your pesticide intake and maximize mineral intake and taste. Try grilling peppers, zucchini, mushrooms, sweet potatoes and more! Sprinkle them with extra virgin olive oil and coarse sea salt before grilling for added flavour and nutrients. When choosing a veggie burger, of which there are many tasty options, be sure to look for those made with organic soy, to avoid genetically modified soybeans.

As a general rule, use your BBQ at low temperatures, to avoid the carcinogens created by burning food. Most of all enjoy the great weather and the delicious tastes of real, wholesome, naturally raised foods.
